2024 Youth Report

Tri-County Pheasants Forever is proud to support the “No Child Left Indoors Initiative.” This initiative is dedicated to working with chapters and conservation partners to provide opportunities for youth and their families to share our outdoor traditions and develop a conservation ethic. As a chapter, we have committed to this mission, and continue to reach out to develop local youths and their families, and support these initiatives. This past year, Tri-County donated $10,000 to this program thru the National Pheasants Forever initiative.

Byron Sportsman 10th Annual Youth Shoot, in August, introduced 486 in attendance, youth, adults, and volunteers to the outdoors and shooting sports. Tri-County donated $500.00, as well as, pop up shelters, and youth guns to support this event. This year we have committed to donating $1000 to this event. Reserve August 17th, 2024 for the next BSCC Free Community Youth Shoot.

“Get Youth Outdoors” Big Cup Event, was held August 14th and raised over $5000.00, to be donated and support local youth outdoor events. This past summer the format was changed to help adhere to COVID restrictions, but it went very well and it was great to interact with our supporters. We will continue the one pay format again this year.

Tri County PF was able to donate $3,000 for scholarships to T.U.N.E Camp to be held at Eagle Buff Campgrounds this coming June. T.U.N.E. (The Ultimate Nature Experience) aims to encourage and support youth in their endeavor to participate in exciting outdoor activities; learn new outdoor skills; explore fascinating aspects of the natural world; begin to understand the relationships between humans, wildlife, land & water; and establish lifelong appreciation and stewardship of the world they inherit.

T.U.N.E. Camp

T.U.N.E. camp is a program of Pheasants Forever with support of partner Trout Unlimited.

Come to T.U.N.E. camp and experience fun activities like archery, high ropes, rifle range, trap shooting, orienteering, outdoor survival skills, campfires, night hikes, canoeing and more! “Last Fall I was lucky enough to go on a hunt with Pheasants forever and fell in love. One thing I noticed during the hunt is all the prairie grass that they had put there for the pheasants. I was thankful for this because it brought more birds but I never quite understood just what it did. Then I got a scholarship from Tri-County Pheasants Forever to go to Tune camp. We did all sorts of amazing things from canoeing, trap shooting, and even things like beekeeping. There was one thing that stood out though during those days. In between all the amazing activities there were presentations on different things, even prairie grass. What I learned about these amazing grasses is that they used to cover 250 million acres of North America and helped the earth by being able to absorb nine inches of rain per acre. Helping erosion and soil, literally holding the earth together. It changed the way I look at what the point of Pheasants Forever does when they restore these places. I can’t thank Tri-County Pheasants Forever enough for all they have done for me.” Sincerely, Matt Willits, 13 years old, Byron High School
